Why Use a DSLR to Film your Wedding?

Who would have thought, a stills Camera used to film your wedding. Well if you have been doing your research you may have noticed a huge difference in the quality of work on the market. Some images may look flat and uninteresting while others look like they are straight out of Hollywood. I like to demonstrate my work online so prospective clients can see what they are getting without being too technical.

If you’ve seen images that appear to literally jump out of the screen then this is achieved by using a DSLR Camera like the Canon 5D Mk11 which I now use. I thought it best to demonstrate the difference between shots taken at recent weddings where 2 different cameras were used to videotape certain parts of the day. I purposely used no effects on any of these clips so you could view them as they are straight out of the camera/s.

The 2 Camera’s used are:

1. A Full-HD Sony Video Camera (EX1)
2. A DSLR Canon Stills Camera (5D Mk11)

In most cases, clients are not aware how much better the images look coming from a DSLR Camera like the Canon 5D Mk11 as used in the following clip. I am asked regularly if I film in Full-HD, and using DSLR equipment I do.

You be the judge, and while searching for a suitable Wedding Video supplier, ask the question if they use DSLR Cameras?

Diana & Andrew’s Cinematic Wedding Preview

This preview of Diana & Andrew’s Wedding was filmed this around Observatory Hill & Wharf 9 within the Rocks Sydney. The couple were very easy to work with and presented so well on Camera. To say that we are happy with this clip would be an understatement, well are extactic that it turned out so well. This truly demonstrates the future direction for DEFilms. It’s results like this that remind us of why we do this, to have the honour to be a part of something so big and so meaningful makes it all the more special to us. Congratulations to you, there is something truly magical about you two.

The Wedding of Prashanti & Srini, a Hindu Wedding

One of the most colourful weddings I have filmed, The Wedding of Prashanti & Srini. All footage captured using a Canon 5D I had a chance to try out the DP slider which suited this style of wedding very well.

Jenna & Chris

Jenna & Chris met on a P & O Cruise from Sydney under the Harbour Bridge as they were sailing out. They instantly connected and developed a very strong bond, for a while they lived in separate states however eventually Jenna moved to Sydney and in Chris’s words its the best move shes ever made. Judging by the way these two interact with each other I believe the feeling is mutual. Therefore here is the Wedding Highlight of Jenna & Chris. Their ceremony was held at the Garrison Church Millers Point Sydney Outdoor footage filmed at Observatory Hill and thereafter the Reception was held at Le Montage Lillyfield.

The Wedding of Jodie & Craig

Presenting the Wedding of Jodie & Craig where they were married at the Craigieburn Resort Bowral. They say rain brings good luck, well at least for us the rains held back until the Ceremony was complete and most of the guests had moved inside. We had just enough time to get some fantastic images on the grounds of the resort when a Rainbow appeared presenting us with a fantastic opportunity to capture these two under the rainbow.

The Craigieburn Resort is based around lush green grass and rolling hills of the Southern Highlands just 90 mins South West of Sydney. Jodie & Craig have been together for 10 years and finally made their commitment and here is their wedding. Congratulations to you both

A Cinematic Wedding – The style of things to come

Shot using 5D DSLR Cameras, this is our first attempt at creating a true cinematic look. This is a the NDE (Next Day Edit) we did for Danielle & Marks Wedding 30/07/2011. We have a fantastic day capturing the wedding, starting out at Star City Darling Harbour for both Bride & Groom preps we then travelled into St Andrews Cathedral at Town Hall Sydney for the Ceremony. During the Ceremony. The resulting audio track was captured during the ceremony and sung by a relative of the Bride & Groom, Amazing Grace. I simply couldn’t resist using this track once I heard the finished result. The Location shoot was filmed in the QVB Sydney and Pier 9 The Rocks. Thereafter the Reception was held at Doltone House Pyrmont.

I had a great Crew to work with and they are as follows:

Exposed Down Under

Recently I had the opportunity to attend the best wedding videographers workshop ever held in Australia, ‘Exposed Down Under‘ in Melbourne. The outstanding quality of the instruction was simply amazing with 4 international presenters & a few local ones as well. Drawing on the inspiration from this event I’ve already made changes to my service with the recent purchase of a Canon 5D to create the well sought after Cinematic Style of shooting. To try and describe here how inspirational this workshop was is impossible to convey here but what it does is re-confirm the importance of what we do as videographers when capturing weddings & special events. Over time I will be making changes to further improve the level of service provided, all for the good of course. I’ll be concentrating on the branding of DE films so as to provide an exclusive service with minimal outsourcing, trading under my own name means that you are booking me to film & produce your wedding.
